Newcastle are seemingly no closer to deciding who the manager to guide them into their new era will be.

Steve Bruce will take charge of the side against Tottenham, which will be his 1,000th game as a manager.

The Daily Mail have reported that Villarreal manager Unai Emery is now under consideration.

Emery of course has Premier League experience as he used to manage Arsenal.

He became a bit of a figure of fun by the end of his time in north London and that was unfair.

Emery has ten major honours to his name across his career, most of which came with Paris Saint-Germain.

He is a serial Europa League winner too, having lifted the trophy four times.

Would Emery swap European football’s top table for a relegation fight? The report says the Spaniard has reservations.

Ultimately, Newcastle want someone who is wholly committed to what the new owners are trying to do.

But Emery is a good manager, who can organise a team effectively and win trophies.

PIF are clearly not rushing their managerial appointment and plenty of names will come under consideration.

Emery is seemingly among them, but it remains to be seen whether that interest is firmed up.
