Newcastle United confirmed the permanent departure of Elias Sorensen on Monday evening.
The striker has returned to Denmark, signing a four-year deal with Esbjerg, who play in the second tier of Danish football.
After arriving in 2016 with a lot of promise, Sorensen failed to make a single appearance for the Newcastle first-team.
He was previously prolific for the Magpies’ youth sides, leading to a lot of fans wanting him to get a chance in the first-team.

Sadly, that chance never came his way.
Instead, Sorensen went out on loan, and disappointed more than once. Temporary moves to Blackpool and Carlisle failed to kickstart Sorensen’s career in senior football.
Last season he went to Almere on loan, playing in the second tier of Dutch football. Sorensen did better there, scoring five goals in 23 appearances.
However, it wasn’t enough to give him a fresh chance at Newcastle.
Instead, Sorensen has returned to Denmark at the age of 21, five years after arriving in the North East.

What has he got to show for his time in England? An incredible Geordie/Danish accent, that’s what.
His departure from St James’ Park has caused quite a stir among Toon fans.
Some are furious about his exit, seeing it as another failure by the club’s academy.
Meanwhile, others believe he simply wasn’t up to the standard required for Premier League football. Considering he struggled for minutes in League One and League Two, it’s hard to disagree.
