Eddie Howe suggests 30-year-old may well play for Newcastle vs Manchester City now

Callum Wilson is looking very close to a return for Newcastle United. There’s a possibility he may make his return against Manchester City.

In the press conference ahead of the Man City vs Newcastle game, Eddie Howe spoke on the availability of the striker.

“He’s trained all week, he’s trained very well, he had two really tough days & he’s come through them well. He’s put a lot of work in to get to this point. He looks in a good place and there’s a good chance he’ll be involved on Sunday.” Howe stated.

Additonally, Kieran Trippier is looking close to a return too. He’ll be available for selection too. The duo’s return to the squad will be a huge boost.

Wilson will bolster Newcastle’s quality off the bench

Should Callum Wilson appear off the bench he could be key for Newcastle. They’ve had to rely on Chris Wood who has struggled to find the net consistently.

Man City vs Newcastle is a chance for the Magpies to put pressure on the teams around them. They’re looking to make a push for the top half.

But Howe’s side’s fixture list looks tough and achieving that goal could be a real challenge as a result. The fact they’re even challenging for the top ten shows the superb job Howe has done since taking charge.

Meanwhile, City are pushing to retain their Premier League title. Especially since Liverpool defeated the Toon last weekend, putting pressure on them.

The last time the two sides met, City beat the Magpies 4-0 at St James’ Park. Howe’s side have come a long way since then though. In 2022 they’ve been exceptional, climbing out of the relegation zone in the process.

They went on a nine-game unbeaten run. No team survived relegation after not winning after their first 14 games. But Eddie Howe will achieve this with his Newcastle side.

Also, with Wilson and Trippier being added to that side. It could make them a real force, adding that extra quality to the side.

Furthermore, the summer could be an exciting one for the Toon. They could attract a number of exciting talents and surge even further up the league.
