Newcastle United are set to give one of their academy youngsters a chance in their upcoming matchday squads.

Eddie Howe has effectively been forced to look to his academy for some reinforcements because of the sheer amount of injuries the team has suffered, with Joelinton being the latest blow out for the season.

According to The Athletic, this means that Joe White, who has returned from his loan spell at Crewe Alexandra this month, will be given a chance to impress in the first-team.

Newcastle youngsters have big opportunity in the next six months

At the rate injuries are racking up at the minute we may not have seen the last Newcastle star who is ruled out for a significant period of time, so these academy players will have to be on stand by.

Although the season hasn’t exactly been declared as a write off, the fact the club are willing to entertain offers for Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson suggests they are preparing for a big summer.

That could mean that the ‘promising‘ White and other academy graduates are given a bigger role to play in the next six months and will have to take this opportunity to impress Howe.

We’ve already seen how successful it can be to bring through some young players into the first team with the introduction of Lewis Miley, but whether or not that can be replicated so easily is another matter.

Newcastle still looking for a new midfielder

While White will have been placed on stand by for the upcoming Premier League game against Aston Villa, there is still hope that Newcastle can fill the void left by Joelinton’s injury in January.

Atalanta’s Ederson is a name that has been rumoured to be a big target as of late, but it looks like any sort of move for the Brazilian will have to wait until the summer when there is more to spend.

Newcastle simply cannot go the next six months without a new addition in the middle of the pitch, though it looks like that decision has been taken away from them with the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Unless there are some key outgoings in the next week, it’s very unlikely that the Magpies will be bringing in a new face this month.
