There is little rest for Newcastle United after Saturday’s thrilling win over West Ham.
Indeed, Eddie Howe and his side are back at St James’ Park as Newcastle host Everton in another Premier League clash.
Morale should be fairly high after the drama of Saturday’s scintillating victory. Harvey Barnes proved the hero of course but the likes of Lewis Hall have been praised for their performance too.
While defensive problems remain for Howe and the injury crisis refuses to slow down, Newcastle must feel confident about enacting at least some revenge on Sean Dyche’s side.
They were well beaten at Goodison Park in December on a night when Anthony Gordon was mocked by Everton supporters.
Sadly, the winger will not be available for Tuesday’s revenge mission following his second booking towards the end of Saturday’s game.
Still, Howe is hopeful one of his key players will soon return.
Eddie Howe provides Kieran Trippier injury update before Newcastle play Everton
Speaking on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s game, Howe suggested Kieran Trippier could return for the game.
The England international has missed the last three games across all competitions following a calf problem sustained during the win over Wolves last month but is said to be “desperate” to return for Tuesday.
“Kieran is improving,” he said (via The Chronicle).
“It was a difficult injury for him, one on the calf and one that we have to be very, very careful with. We hoped he would be fit in and around this game [West Ham]. But we will have to wait and see how he goes this week.
“I think he is desperate to be involved, he knows what is at stake for us between now and the end of the season. His qualities are obvious. So we are desperate for him back but it has to be at the right time.”

Kieran Trippier can still have a big impact for Newcastle this season
Trippier himself has admitted his standards have dropped this season and the veteran has even been tipped for an exit this summer.
Still, that’s not to suggest he cannot have a big role to play during what remains of the campaign.
His attacking qualities can hardly be questioned and even during this most difficult of seasons, he has still registered 10 Premier League assists.
Hailed as “nasty” defensively by Alan Shearer, his experience will no doubt be vital to a defence to have lost Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles to serious injuries of late.
If this is to be Trippier’s last knockings in a Newcastle shirt, he can still deliver a parting gift by helping them qualify for Europe.
