Eddie Howe reveals what has now been ‘confirmed’ about Sven Botman’s injury

Newcastle United will be without Sven Botman for Wednesday’s pre-season friendly against Team K-League.

That is another frustrating blow for what has been a dreadful summer for Newcastle United thus far.

Botman suffered a groin injury against Arsenal on Sunday, lasting only 25 minutes of his second half appearance before being forced off.

Fortunately, Botman appeared to have avoided serious injury but will now miss Wednesday’s game in Suwon.

Newcastle play Team K-League and Eddie Howe has provided an update on the defender ahead of the game.

Sven Botman ruled out of Newcastle United’s game against Team K-League

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the Newcastle United manager confirmed Botman would play no part in the game.

There is a slight chance the 25-year-old could feature against Tottenham on Sunday, although Howe did sound rather cautious on that. Still, it has now been confirmed that Botman is not seriously injured.

He added that Newcastle “hope” the defender can play some part of the Sela Cup double-header against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid next weekend.

“We didn’t think it was a serious injury and we’ve had that confirmed with a scan,” he said.

“He won’t play tomorrow. He could play against Tottenham, but possibly not. We hope he’ll be available for the double header.”

How many games Sven Botman has missed through injury for Newcastle United

Botman decided not to have surgery on a knee injury in 2024 and has since suffered various fitness issues.

He has struggled to keep fit after every comeback since. In total, Botman has missed 59 games for the club.

Hopefully, this latest issue is not serious. It would be wise for Newcastle to take precautionary measures in regard to the former Lille defender.

Still, Newcastle have somehow got themselves into a position where they are reliant on a player who looks increasingly injury-prone.

None of the other defenders in the Newcastle United squad offer the same attributes as Botman, and the club cannot seem to sign any players to come in and compete with him.
