Eddie Howe now told he doesn’t get the ‘credit he deserves’ after ‘excellent’ Newcastle United gamble

Newcastle United have a fantastic manager in Eddie Howe.

Howe arrived at Newcastle United in November 2021 and has since brought huge success to the club.

While the PIF takeover at St James’ Park changed everything about the club, the Newcastle United manager has surely exceeded expectations at this relatively early stage of the new era.

Indeed, the 47-year-old became the man who ended the club’s 70-year wait for a domestic honour back in March, with Newcastle winning the Carabao Cup. Now, he looks set to lead the club back into the Champions League, having already done so in 2023.

Howe has proven to be an inspired appointment on Tyneside. Indeed, Howe has transformed a number of Newcastle players into big stars, proving he’s an excellent training ground coach rather than just someone who relies on big signings.

Still, former Sunderland defender Danny Higginbotham thinks he’s overlooked.

Eddie Howe told he doesn’t get the credit he deserves at Newcastle United

Higginbotham was speaking on NBC Sports following Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.

The former Sunderland defender praised Howe for gambling with his team selection. For the first time in a while, the Toon boss deployed Anthony Gordon alongside Harvey Barnes as the wingers behind Alexander Isak, with Jacob Murphy operating as a wing-back.

Higginbotham said: “They took the game to Chelsea. You know, I think Barnes and Gordon as the two number 10s was excellent.”

He added: “I just think with Eddie Howe, I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves at times. He never gets too high, never gets too low, he just keeps things on an even keel on a continuous basis.

“He’s done, once again, another incredible job.”

Eddie Howe responds after PIF told they “failed” Newcastle United manager

Back in August, club legend Alan Shearer was unhappy.

Having failed to strengthen their squad last summer, Shearer said the Newcastle United owners had “failed” Howe by not signing any first-team players.

That feels an awfully long time ago now. Howe has managed to get a squad that hasn’t really been added to since the summer of 2023 to go again and record perhaps the most historic season in the club’s modern history.

Now, it’s time for PIF to back Howe. Newcastle want to sign at least three players this summer and the money the Champions League would bring in would surely help that process.

Newcastle can’t keep relying on miracles. It’s time to give Howe the squad he deserves.
