Newcastle United still appear to be sweating on the fitness of Sean Longstaff ahead of Saturday’s game against Chelsea.

The Magpies return to action against Chelsea after the international break, as Mauricio Pochettino’s side head to Tyneside to take on a Newcastle team that has been struggling with injuries.

Eddie Howe’s side picked up a fresh issue following the defeat to Bournemouth, with Sean Longstaff hurting his ankle.

It was reported after the game that he was now a doubt to face Chelsea on November 25th, despite being able to complete the full 90 minutes at the Vitality Stadium.

There have since been claims that Newcastle are hopeful of Longstaff returning to face Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, but a fresh update from Howe suggests that the 26-year-old might have an outside chance of playing against Chelsea.

Ahead of Newcastle’s game against Chelsea, Howe spoke to the media, where he provided an update on Longstaff’s status.

“We will check on Sean [Longstaff] before tomorrow,” he said.

It would be great if the Newcastle midfielder is fit to face Chelsea

While Howe has not said Longstaff will be available to face Chelsea, he certainly hasn’t ruled him out either. As always with Howe, you never quite get the full story!

It would be a huge boost if Longstaff is fit for Saturday’s game at St James’ Park, as he is a vital cog in the Newcastle machine.

He has had a huge impact this season, with our form noticeably improving once he returned to the starting XI. He continues to improve, which is a testament to his work ethic and Howe’s coaching.

But the Newcastle boss will be careful with Longstaff, as he will be eager for him to start against PSG on Tuesday night.

That might lead to Howe not taking any chances with the local lad. If that is the case, Lewis Miley could possibly start his second Premier League game in a row, which would be a huge moment for the teenager.
