Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has insisted that Kieran Trippier is ‘fine’ ahead of Saturday’s game against Luton Town.
The 33-year-old is looking to bounce back after an awful night on Tuesday, as he made two mistakes that resulted in Newcastle being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Chelsea.
It was Kieran Trippier‘s error that allowed Mykhailo Mudryk to equalise in stoppage time, which took the game to penalties. Trippier then missed his penalty, with the defender unable to hit the target from 12 yards.
It was heartbreaking to watch, as Trippier’s tough spell continued.
His form is massively under the microscope at the moment. He has been nowhere near his best in recent weeks, struggling away to Everton and Tottenham.
Then came the Chelsea disaster, as Trippier’s woes refused to go away.
Now Eddie Howe has provided an update on the right-back, sharing how he has reacted to Tuesday night’s events.
Eddie Howe says Kieran Trippier is ‘fine’ ahead of Luton
Ahead of Newcastle’s game against Luton Town, Howe spoke to the media. He was asked about how Trippier was doing heading into the match.
“He’s fine,” he said, as reported by journalist Andy Sixsmith.
“Very strong character. It’s never about one individual – all about the collective and that’s how we’ve reacted. Everyone will look to him. We’ve been in these positions before. The team has to carry the weight forward.”

Newcastle star is going to bounce back
Trippier will be desperate to atone for his errors, starting on Saturday.
He is going through a difficult moment, but he has the talent and the temperament to bounce back. He is an elite footballer, and probably the most important signing that the owners have made at Newcastle.
We did suggest that maybe he should be rested against Luton, but that feels unlikely. Howe’s comments suggest that he is ready to go, which is no surprise given the type of person Trippier is.
There is no doubt that Trippier will get back to his best. Before these recent errors, he was having another wonderful season. He truly was playing brilliantly.
But a bit of tiredness has crept in and that has led to mistakes – mistakes that unfortunately had major consequences.
There will be a reaction from Trippier, hopefully starting against Luton on Saturday. He really could silence all the noise surrounding him with a trademark free-kick at Kenilworth Road!
