Newcastle United made it through to the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday night.
After what felt like an age following their defeat to Manchester City two weeks ago, Eddie Howe’s side were back in action at Fulham.
Though not exactly a vintage Newcastle performance, Sean Longstaff and Dan Burn scored the goals to fire the Magpies through.
With all due respect to Fulham, it would have been a game Newcastle were expected to win. The fact it was played away from home, however, made things more doubtful.
Indeed, Howe’s side have been pretty dire on the road all season but the Newcastle manager has noticed a quirk.
Newcastle: Eddie Howe says something “strange” is happening this season
Newcastle have now won their last two away games, albeit they have come in the cups. Throw in the fact they also beat Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup and it makes the fact Newcastle have been so bad on the road in the Premier League even more confusing.
Speaking to The Independent, Howe said: “It’s strange because you look at us in the cups and we’ve been OK (away).
“We just haven’t carried it across to the Premier League form, which has been a huge frustration. But I don’t see any reason why we can’t start winning away from home.
“We prided ourselves last year on being hard to score against. We’ve got the players to score at the other end. It’s been missing this year, but hopefully that will return quickly.”

Newcastle news: Aston Villa game huge
It’s promising to see Newcastle get some success on their travels.
Still, they are now set for one of the most difficult assignments the Premier League has to offer. Aston Villa, who have dropped only two points at home all season, await on Tuesday.
If Newcastle can get something out of that, it could set up a thrilling final few months of the campaign.
