Newcastle United defender Dan Burn has provided a very refreshing verdict on the Magpies’ 2-0 FA Cup win over Fulham.

Eddie Howe’s side have advanced to the fifth round of the competition thanks to goals from Sean Longstaff and Dan Burn.

Two Geordies got the job done for Newcastle United, in what was a game that they simply had to win.

Despite enjoying a two week break, there has been a lot of noise on Tyneside. All the talk has been about players being sold and no new signings arriving.

There was huge pressure to deliver in the FA Cup and advance, and that is exactly what Howe’s side have done.

However, they pretty much did the bare minimum to get over the line. Newcastle were far from their best, and Burn has admitted that immediately after the final whistle.

Dan Burn says Newcastle were not at their best against Fulham

The 31-year-old spoke to ITV4 immediately after the game, and was honest enough to admit that Newcastle were nowhere near their best against Fulham.

“I don’t think we were at our best tonight, but the most important thing was we got through and kept a clean sheet,” he said.

“I still don’t think we’re firing on all cylinders. We’re still waiting for bodies to come back. But you saw glimpses of what we can do, especially in the second half. I think we played some good stuff.”

Newcastle get the job done on ITV4

It was not a vintage Newcastle performance. In fact, it was a pretty poor display. But they capitalised on Fulham’s limp attack and grabbed two goals at key moments.

Longstaff and Burn’s strikes mean that Newcastle are still in the hat, while it was also a rare away victory for the Magpies. This is only the fourth win on the road this season, and it comes on a night where the Toon Army will struggle to get home unless they are driving. The kickoff time was absolutely ridiculous – and the game was only on ITV4! Seemingly the Masked Singer is more important than Eddie Howe’s Magpies.

But the travelling supporters made a lot of noise, as they continue to dream of another trip to Wembley.

We will have to play a lot better than that to get that far in the competition, but the most important thing is that we are still in it.
