Eddie Howe has been very pleased with Newcastle United’s response to the growing number of injuries after a huge win against Man United.
Newcastle were forced to play the same starting 11 that played against Chelsea last Saturday and PSG on Tuesday, with no subs being made in the game in Paris.
In his press conference after the game, Eddie Howe revealed how proud he was of his team to come away with three huge results in the last week despite an incredibly long list of injuries.
Eddie Howe proud of Newcastle’s resilience
Things looked worrying for Newcastle heading into the international break, coming off the back off successive defeats to Dortmund and Bournemouth, facing elimination from the Champions League and falling down the Premier League table.
The team had also just picked up an injury to Miguel Almiron with the list of sidelined players growing every week.
However, Eddie Howe has gotten a brilliant reaction out of the players who are still available and have managed to turn their fortunes around in three huge games.
An emphatic 4-1 win against Chelsea, a resilient performance against PSG and a brilliant 1-0 win over Man United has restored confidence in every Newcastle player and Howe will be hoping that he can keep this run of form going.
After the Man United game, Howe said: “I don’t think the squad’s surprised me because I think we’ve got very good players within the squad. I think it’s far from ideal to be in the position that we’re in.
“But then you have to focus on the players that you do have fit and available and see their response to the situation.
“I think you go back to the Chelsea game, it’s a big moment in our season because it would have been very easy for that moment to go differently but it was a brilliant response and a big win.
“They followed that up with Paris and then tonight and hopefully that gives us loads of confidence going into a tough run of fixtures with a small squad.”

Nick Pope added to Newcastle’s injury list
It was a brilliant result for Newcastle, especially given the circumstances, but they picked up yet another key injury to goalkeeper Nick Pope as the team’s fitness issues continued.
Howe will be hugely disappointed to lose his starting shot-stopper who was coming off the back of one of the game’s of his career against PSG.
It’s still unclear how long the £10m signing could be out for, but with the games coming thick and fast for Newcastle it’s yet another huge blow that Howe will have to deal with and navigate his way through.
That said, if this is how the squad react to the number of injuries that the team have already suffered, this will surely only spur them on and make the players more determined than ever to get a result against Everton on Thursday night.
