Anthony Gordon is back at Newcastle United following his Euro 2024 excursions.
The Newcastle star was rewarded for his fine club form with a call-up to the England squad for the tournament in Germany but was handed only a few minutes by now former Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.
That is said to have confused people close to the England camp, with the team lacking a natural option on the left for much of the tournament.
Obviously, they ultimately reached the final, but even the most ardent England fan would surely admit it wasn’t totally convincing.
There was certainly clamour for Gordon to start for England during the campaign from the likes of Alan Shearer but Southgate largely ignored the calls.
Now, Eddie Howe has given his verdict on Gordon’s time at Euro 2024.

Speaking ahead of the trip down to Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday, Howe revealed what he really thought about Gordon’s time in Germany.
“The Euros will have been an incredible experience for him,” he said (via Northern Echo).
“The first time that he will have been with England for any length of time and I’m sure he’ll have learned, seen and experienced a lot from that.
“Sometimes, we all have this vision of the fairytale ending, you go in and help win your country the tournament at the first time [of asking].
“But life is rarely like that. Anthony will have seen a lot and hopefully use that for next time that he’s involved.”

Lee Carsley, who managed Gordon during England’s U21 European Championship win in 2023, will be in interim charge of the Three Lions for next month’s internationals.
Gordon starred under his watch last year, so surely has a much better chance of featuring under him than during the Southgate tenure.
With better news on the horizon on the international front, hopefully Newcastle can soon secure Gordon’s future at club level.
The winger was reportedly tempted by the idea of a move to Liverpool earlier this summer but is seemingly soon set for contract talks on Tyneside.
Gordon could feasibly go on to become much more of a regular for England. Newcastle have to ensure he does that while on their books.
