Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is delighted with the signing of Yoane Wissa.
On a dramatic deadline day, Newcastle United confirmed the signing of Wissa.
The DR Congo international will wear the club’s iconic number 9 shirt, vacated by Callum Wilson earlier this summer.
Wissa was keen to leave Brentford all summer and has now technically replaced Wilson in the Newcastle United squad.
The ex-Brentford forward bagged 19 Premier League goals last season and looks ready to hit the ground running at St James’ Park.
After a bruising summer, Howe now has two strikers through the door in the form of Wissa and Nick Woltemade.
Following news of Wissa’s arrival, Howe gave his verdict on the striker.

Eddie Howe reacts as Newcastle United sign Yoane Wissa
Howe was speaking to Newcastle United’s official website.
A statement from the Newcastle United manager read: “Yoane is a player who we have admired for some time and we’re delighted to have him on board.
“He brings proven Premier League quality, demonstrated not only by his goalscoring output but also the crucial work he does for the team.
“Yoane’s style of play will excite our supporters and complement our style of play – he has pace, power and an excellent work rate. He immediately makes us stronger.”
Wissa is in line to make his debut for the club when they host Wolves on Saturday 13 September, 2025.
The stat every Newcastle United fan should love about Yoane Wissa
There’s a degree of risk in signing Wissa. He will be 29 soon and is set to miss part of the 2025/26 season due to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Newcastle owners PIF have never paid this much money for a player of his age and there would appear to be little in the way of resale value.
| Statistic | Yoane Wissa |
| Career goals | 107 |
| Penalty goals | 12 |
| Penalties missed | 2 |
Still, Woltemade is for the future and Wissa looks very much like he is for the present.
He’s a proven Premier League goalscorer and one particular statistic should delight Newcastle fans.
Indeed, all 19 of Wissa’s goals last season came from open play. That’s the same number as Alexander Isak’s haul during the 2024/25 campaign, with four of his 23 goals coming from the penalty spot.
It will be fascinating to see how Wissa and Woltemade link up on Tyneside.
