Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is the master at making players better.
It has been the foundation of his success at Newcastle United, and it is something he will need to do this season amid the club’s transfer shortcomings.
It has been a frustrating summer for the Magpies, although there is hope that a breakthrough could be on the horizon. Newcastle are reportedly much closer to signing Marc Guehi, with an agreement possibly coming as early as Wednesday.
But he might be the final player to join Newcastle United this summer, as he remains on course to become the fifth fresh face to join Eddie Howe‘s squad. However, he is the only one that would improve the Magpies’ starting XI.
Newcastle United’s transfer business so far
Newcastle have brought in two goalkeepers, neither of which are as good as Nick Pope. As for Lloyd Kelly, he adds depth to the Newcastle defence.
Then there is Will Osula, who has been signed because of his potential. He is proving backup to Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, but is not ready to be a starter for Newcastle United just yet.

However, that is the overall goal, and he is already making improvements after his £10million arrival from Sheffield United.
Eddie Howe is really happy with Will Osula so far
Eddie Howe is excited about what the future holds for Osula, and has been speaking about the forward ahead of Newcastle’s Carabao Cup clash with Nottingham Forest.
“He’s doing really well,” he said.
“I think it’s always a big step when you come to a club of this size and stature. And everything that goes with that – it’s a lot for a young player to take on board. It’s his first move as well.
“I think he’s handled himself with real class. He’s trained very well, he’s been very level and grounded. He’s focussing on his game and making improvements to his game that he needs to make.
“He’s got all the qualities that we saw when we signed him. I’m really looking forward to seeing how his career develops.”
Osula could make his Newcastle United debut tonight
Since joining Newcastle United, Osula has only made one appearance. That came in a friendly, as he started the 1-0 win over Brest.
Osula impressed Newcastle fans on that day, but has been an unused substitute in both of the Magpies’ opening Premier League fixtures. He has watched on as Alexander Isak has led the line, waiting for an opportunity to come his way.
And that opportunity might come on Wednesday night against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. Osula is not predicted to start for Newcastle, but he could potentially make his competitive debut off the bench.
It would be a great chance for him to get some competitive minutes, and it would allow him to really show Eddie Howe how much he has already improved since becoming a Newcastle United player.
