Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe hopes to see Sean Longstaff sign a new contract with the club.
The star stands to leave as a free agent at the end of the current campaign.

He has struggled for minutes in recent times at St. James’ Park.
He was one of the club’s better performers in the early stages of the season. But he faded away, and then Howe has preferred to field the likes of Joe Willock, Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey and Bruno Guimaraes in midfield.
So far, he has only made three Premier League starts under Howe.
But despite not featuring all that much, the manager was full of praise for Longstaff when speaking about him in his press conference on Friday.
He sees him having a long-term future at St. James’ Park.

He said (via Chronicle): “Talks are continuing. He’s someone I’ve got a lot of respect for, a lot of time for.
“He’s certainly someone we like and believe in. I see a long-term future for him here. We just hope that we can get the contract sorted.”
Previously, Everton have shown interest in Longstaff.
But it’s likely the 24-year-old will eventually agree fresh terms. The player did recently suggested that he wanted to stay put at the club.
New Sean Longstaff contract at Newcastle is surely only a matter of time
One would imagine that there will be news of a new contract for Longstaff soon.
The player is keen to prolong his stay. And now Howe has spoken warmly about the midfielder, saying he thinks he has a long-term future.

He hasn’t had the greatest of seasons.
But we have seen in the past how much ability he has.
Hopefully in the coming seasons, he can see him start to live up to his potential.
