Newcastle United’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace was a significant moment in Eddie Howe’s run so far as manager. The Magpies have now won six home games in a row, matching what Sir Bobby Robson’s side did back in 2004.

Robson is a legend on Tyneside and is without a doubt one of the greatest managers they’ve ever had. So for Howe to equal his record early on is such a massive statement. He was appointed Toon manager in November last year and has lifted them from the bottom three to challenging for the top 10.

The current players and new signings in January seem to thrive under him. The support at St James’ Park has been outstanding since the new owners and Howe arrived. The atmosphere is electric and the ground once again feels like a fortress.

Howe could cement himself as one of the top managers in Newcastle’s history if he continues the way he’s going

The sky seems the limit for the Magpies at the moment. New wealthy and ambitious owners, coupled with success on the pitch. You get the feeling that something special is on the horizon at Newcastle.

It’s still early on in his stint with the Toon, but it looks very exciting under Howe. If the club continue the trajectory they’re currently on, the boss could end up ranking highly in terms of great Newcastle managers.

They’ve already been able to attract the likes of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes whilst being in a relegation battle. Just imagine who they could bring in with the promise of Premier League football next season.

Robson’s side were title challengers and faced some of Europe’s top sides in the Champions League such as Juventus. Howe is still a way off from getting there, but it might be closer than some fans may think.
