Newcastle United’s big players have stepped up in recent weeks.

Indeed, only days after Eddie Howe questioned his players for their attitude and application levels following the Premier League defeat to Brentford, Newcastle responded.

The Newcastle United manager has seen his side roar back into form, beating all of Leicester, Ipswich and Aston Villa in convincing fashion while also getting their revenge against the Bees in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Newcastle are now fifth in the Premier League table and could well be on course for Champions League qualification. Beat Arsenal in the cup semi-finals too, then another trip to Wembley awaits.

Howe of course deserves a huge amount of credit for navigating what have been choppy waters this season. Still, the big names in the team have also improved in recent weeks, which has no doubt helped.

One of those is Alexander Isak, who has now scored for five consecutive Premier League games.

Howe has constantly talked up the striker but some more interesting insight has now emerged.

According to the Daily Mail, Howe particularly enjoyed Isak’s dribbling ability, rather than just his finishing, to the point where he was “mesmerised” by the forward’s skill.

An excellent all-round striker and someone tipped as the best in the Premier League, it’s certainly easy to see why.

Not only is Isak a great goal-scorer, he’s a scorer of great goals.

After the win over Villa, Howe even claimed he wouldn’t swap Isak for any other player in world football.

That is some statement and an indication as to the high esteem in which he’s held on Tyneside.

An absolutely world class talent at his best, Isak is crucial to what Newcastle do going forward.
