Eddie Howe delivers verdict as Newcastle star Lewis Hall makes ‘life changing’ England debut

Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall enjoyed a brilliant night in his young career on Thursday.

Indeed, Hall capped off a remarkable rise over the past few months by earning a 45-minute England debut away in Greece in what was a crucial Nations League victory for the Three Lions.

It was fantastic to see the defender recognised for his fine form. After a difficult start at Newcastle following a move from Chelsea due to doubts about his defending, the 20-year-old has really turned things around.

Hall is now a key player at club level and could well become a fixture at international level. Incoming England boss Thomas Tuchel gave him his professional debut while with the Blues back in 2022 and isn’t exactly blessed with a huge amount of options at left-back.

While Hall’s own hard work of course cannot be ignored, Eddie Howe has to be praised for his coaching of the defender.

The Newcastle United manager has a proven track record of improving players and Hall became the latest beneficiary of that, following in the footsteps of Anthony Gordon. The winger also endured a difficult start to life on Tyneside before going on to break into the England side.

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe delivers verdict on Lewis Hall’s England debut

Howe is away in Saudi Arabia with the Newcastle players not on international duty and was asked by the club’s in-house media channel what he thought about Hall’s performance.

“Amazing for Lewis, amazing for his family,” he told the club’s official website.

“Sort of life changing moment really, I think. So pleased for him, it’s come at a really age in his career and hopefully there’s many more to come. I thought he did really well when he came on.

“[It was a] High pressure game as well, it’s what he’s become accustomed to with us. I thought he handled himself really well.”

Eddie Howe has made a big prediction about Lewis Hall and Newcastle

At only 20, Hall is a regular at Premier League level and international recognition has now arrived.

The future certainly is promising for the defender who, along with Tino Livramento, looks a long-term option for Newcastle at full-back.

Howe is understood to believe Hall will soon prove a bargain for the club, with so much of his career still ahead of him.

It’s certainly hard to disagree with that.
