Newcastle United currently have just one fully fit striker, with Alexander Isak out of action due to injury.

The 24-year-old suffered a groin injury during the Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund, much to the disappointment of Eddie Howe.

Alexander Isak has not played since, missing Newcastle’s past two games. In his absence, Callum Wilson got a brace against Wolves before being rested in the Carabao Cup. He played just 25 minutes off the bench against Manchester United, with Anthony Gordon leading the line from the off.

Isak’s injury is forcing Howe to be creative, but it will not be long before the Sweden international is able to play for the Magpies once again.

Howe has spoke to the media ahead of Newcastle’s game against Arsenal, and confirmed that Isak is currently on course to be available for the Magpies’ first game after the upcoming international break.

“Alex, we hope, will be back after the international break,” he said, as reported by Sky Sports News.

Isak set to return when Newcastle face Chelsea in three weeks

That means that Isak is going to be miss three more games for Newcastle, starting with Arsenal on Saturday. He will then be unavailable for the trip to Germany on Tuesday night, when Newcastle will face Isak’s former side Borussia Dortmund.

After that, Newcastle are away to Bournemouth on November 11th. That looks set to be the final game of Isak’s injury layoff.

In total, it will mean that he has missed five matches. But, assuming he has no further setbacks, he will be available to feature when Newcastle face Chelsea at St James’ Park in the Premier League on November 25th.

That will be a huge boost to Howe, as Newcastle are going to be playing twice a week every week from then until the end of 2023. It is going to be a very busy end to the year for the Magpies, who need as many players as possible to compete on multiple fronts.

Isak will be missing for three more games, meaning Howe has three more games to manage Wilson and ensure he gets the best out of the striker without risking an injury.
