Eddie Howe has confirmed the latest on Tino Livramento’s injury.

In a major blow for Howe, key star Livramento suffered a knee injury during Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup win over Fulham.

The England defender has a transformative impact on Newcastle United’s style of play and Howe’s side are generally much better with him in the team.

However, the 23-year-old is now facing a period on the sidelines.

The former Southampton defender has already missed ten games this season, having suffered a knee injury against Arsenal back in March.

Tino Livramento avoids serious injury and could return in early 2026

That tally now looks set to rise, with the right-back ruled out of Saturday’s Premier League clash against former club Chelsea.

Speaking ahead of that game, Howe confirmed that Livramento had avoided a serious injury but was still likely to be ruled out until the New Year.

It’s a huge blow given Newcastle’s current poor form but the news is perhaps better than feared.

“I don’t think it’s a serious injury but the complication is Tino has injured that knee before in a similar area which makes the recovery time a little bit longer,” said Howe at his pre-match press conference.

“We probably won’t see him until 2026.”

Lewis Hall, however, could return for the Magpies against his former club on Saturday.

Hall missed the win over Fulham with a minor hamstring injury but looks in line to offer Howe a major boost ahead of another huge Premier League game.

Elsewhere, Sven Botman, Kieran Trippier, Will Osula and Emil Krafth are all injured.

It means Lewis Miley is almost certain to start at right-back against the Blues.

Indeed, Miley has become Newcastle’s emergency right-back, having recently been given the role by Howe.

Livramento’s absence is a major concern for the club, ahead of an important run of fixtures over the festive period.

After the Chelsea game, Newcastle head to Manchester United on Boxing Day before they host Burnley in their final game of the calendar year on Tuesday, 30 December, 2025.
