‘I love him’… Jamie Carragher compares 24-year-old Newcastle player to Darwin Nunez

Jamie Carragher has declared his love for one Newcastle United player following the Magpies’ 4-2 defeat to Liverpool.

Eddie Howe‘s side were well beaten at Anfield, as they started 2024 in frustrating fashion. Newcastle simply were not good enough against Liverpool, but they were also on the end of some wretched refereeing decisions. It might be a new year, but some things never change.

And another thing that has not changed is Alexander Isak‘s form. He got Newcastle level shortly after Liverpool had taken the lead in the second half.

It was a smart finish from the 24-year-old, who scored at Anfield for the second season in a row after a perfect through ball from Anthony Gordon.

The goal means Isak, who is Newcastle’s record signing, now has 11 in all competitions so far this season, eclipsing his tally from his debut campaign. He was clinical on Monday night, taking the one chance he got.

He offered a complete contrast to Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez, who missed chance after chance during his side’s victory over the Magpies.

Jamie Carragher absolutely loves Alexander Isak

While it was a poor night overall for Newcastle United, Jamie Carragher still found time to praise Alexander Isak during the post-match analysis on Sky Sports Premier League.

“They were very clinical,” he said.

“Isak, I love him as a player.

“I mean you look at Darwin Nunez and the chances he has, but he just gets one chance and he scores. He’s fantastic.”

Newcastle striker enjoying a sensational season

Carragher absolutely loves Isak, and it is a feeling shared by the Toon Army. Isak is a joy to watch, and his finish on Monday night at Anfield was spectacular.

Sadly it meant nothing, as Newcastle slumped to a third consecutive Premier League defeat.

While Newcastle are in a difficult moment right now, Isak is on course for a great individual season. He is nine goals away from reaching the 20 milestone, which would be a real achievement in his second season in English football.

He was so cool in front of goal against Liverpool, unlike Nunez. The Uruguayan missed so many chances, while Isak took the only one he got.

Considering the Magpies were interested in Nunez before his move to Liverpool, it feels like we have got the better striker in Isak.
