Newcastle United are preparing to enter the next stage of the project led by the PIF.
Since the takeover in 2021, Newcastle fans have been dying for many things. From a new manager to more transparency.
For the most part, fans have enjoyed seeing change and progress across many levels at the club. For example, St James’ STACK is a great money maker for the club. Newcastle’s brand-new club shop has also been a great hit.
The next step to take the club to the next level is undoubtedly the new stadium. Work has been going on in the background to decide what the club will do – a decision on stadium plans is expected in March.
Newcastle COO Brad Miller confirmed the two stadium options are to expand St James’ Park or to build a new stadium in Leazes Park behind the existing site.
The belief is that a new stadium would give the club much more revenue. However, a new stadium would cost Newcastle around £3bn.
A new training ground is in the works behind the scenes. The Daily Mail revealed on Thursday that Newcastle have hired Populous to design the club’s new training ground in what looks set to be a historic move for the club.
During his time at Bournemouth, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was heavily involved in their work to build their new training ground which is due to open in 2025.
With that in mind, there is speculation over how much of a say Howe will have on plans at Newcastle. The Toon boss has addressed his input.

Eddie Howe will not have a say in Newcastle’s training ground development
Howe held his pre-match press conference ahead of Newcastle’s visit to Southampton which aired on Newcastle’s website.
He was asked about the new training ground and if he would have the same level of input he did at Bournemouth.
“I don’t think I will be,” he said.
“(The training ground) will probably be for other people to design.
“You have to remember that in the history of Bournemouth, I was over everything because there wasn’t the infrastructure.
“I don’t mean that in a negative way. There just wasn’t necessarily any infrastructure at that club that there is here. We had gone from league two to the premier league. This is a very different club.
“I think decisions regarding the training ground, stadiums I will be very much in the background, probably hearing about what the experts have planned and then hopefully looking on in awe of what we are going to do.”
Newcastle are still in the very early stages of development. It could still be years before the team moves into their new home.
What has been said about Newcastle’s new training ground
Newcastle fans are sure to be delighted to learn that they will be moving into a new training complex in the future.
In the same Daily Mail report that announced the plans. It stated that Populous have previously worked with Real Madrid on their state-of-the-art training ground which includes various outdoor training fields, a separate goalkeeping field and a 20,000-seat stadium for Real Madrid’s B team to play in.
Newcastle are set to move away from their Little Benton home. The two sites that have made the shortlist are land near Newcastle Racecourse, which is owned by the Reuben family, and in Woolsington. The report suggests that the racecourse is the most likely option.
Although Populous are working on the training ground, it is believed that Newcastle will look to hire another firm to complete stadium work.
