Newcastle United know they have one of the best strikers in the world in Alexander Isak.
The Magpies are lucky to have Alexander Isak, who became Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever in August 2022.
The £63million man has proved to be money well spent, as he enjoys another excellent season. After scoring 25 goals in the 2023/24 campaign, Isak currently has 23 this season with 10 games to go.
His most recent goal was at Wembley, with Isak scoring in the Carabao Cup final.
But is he the best striker in the Premier League today, or does that title still belong to Erling Haaland?

Dominic Solanke’s verdict on Alexander Isak
In the eyes of Tottenham Hotspur forward Dominic Solanke, Haaland is still number one.
That was his view after he was asked to rank Haaland and Isak for the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel.
“On current form, Isak’s on a crazy run right now,” he said.
“But Haaland has still scored however many goals this season as well. I would still put him as one, just because he’s still scored one of the most in the league and we’re not speaking crazy about it.
“But it’s tough because Isak is in great form right now.”
Solanke was then asked to assess the Sweden international as a player.
“I think he’s very good,” he said.
“On the ball he’s very good as well. Brings more than just goals. He’s still got more to give. He’s a great striker.”
Newcastle United must extend Alexander Isak’s contract
In terms of pure goals, Haaland is ahead of Isak this season. The Manchester City superstar has scored 29 goals in 39 games, whereas Isak has 23 goals in 33 games.
But, as Solanke says, Isak brings more than just goals. He is a more complete player, with his dribbling ability, skill and speed giving opponents even more to think about.
That is why Toon chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan loves Isak, as Newcastle United prepare to retain the services of their top scorer.
The Magpies do not want to sell Isak this summer, despite interest from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona.
Instead, Newcastle want to extend Isak’s contract. That is absolutely essential, but a new deal will likely depend on whether Newcastle qualify for the Champions League and the finances that are offered to Isak.
Newcastle United know they have one of the best strikers in the world, and that means they must pay him accordingly.
