Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has now admitted that he is very ‘disappointed’ with this season so far.

The Magpies are massively underperforming compared to last year, and are struggling to mount a serious challenge for Champions League qualification. As it stands, Eddie Howe’s side are ninth in the Premier League and 13 points off of fourth.

On top of that, Newcastle crashed out of the Champions League in the group stage while they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup quarter finals on penalties. It has been an agonising season for Newcastle, who have been so close to glory only to have it snatched away.

It has been frustrating as a fan, and the feeling is mutual for Bruno Guimaraes.

Bruno has spoke to the Chronicle and provided his verdict on Newcastle’s season so far.

“I am very disappointed with how the season has been, crazy really,” he said.

“We have two or three games and we are very good, then two or three when we are very poor. I am really tired and disappointed.

“But I know I have to keep going. It has been a different season for us (compared to finishing fourth last term) but we have had problems with injuries. Just crazy really.”

Newcastle can still be successful this season

It feels like this season has been going on forever. There have been so many games and so many moments, both good and bad. There have been ultimate highs and incredible lows, yet we are only half way through the campaign.

And while the situation is not great right now, there is still a lot to play for. Firstly, we are still in the FA Cup where we have a chance to end our trophy drought. Secondly, all is not lost in the Premier League.

While we are underperforming, we still have the ability to qualify for Europe. The Champions League might be out of reach, but the Europa League is still a genuine possibility. And that should not be sniffed at, despite our recent Champions League exploits.

Bruno’s disappointment is understandable, but so many factors have gone against Newcastle. The biggest one is the injuries, while there has also been the situation surrounding Sandro Tonali.

It really has been a crazy season so far, but it is one that could still have a happy ending despite recent disappointment.
