According to the Athletic, Wolves are hoping to keep hold of Dion Sanderson despite interest from Newcastle.
It was reported on Wednesday that the Magpies had offered £1.5million for the defender, as they looked to gazump rivals Sunderland.
Sunderland reportedly bid £1million for the 21-year-old, but the Daily Mail believe that offer has been turned down.
Now the Athletic have stated that the Magpies’ bid has been rejected too.
Sanderson spent last season on loan in the north east, joining Sunderland in the summer of 2020.
The centre-back excelled at the Stadium of Light, and was named as the supporters’ young player of the year.
Sunderland boss Lee Johnson is a big fan, calling Sanderson a ‘Rolls Royce’.
However, his campaign ended in disappointment, with Sanderson missing the run-in due to injury.
In the end, Sunderland lost in the League One playoffs to Lincoln City.
The Black Cats want to bring Sanderson back, but their third tier status may make things difficult.

According to the Athletic, Wolves do not want to sell Sanderson.
They reportedly want him to sign a new contract at Molineux, before sending him out on loan to the Championship.
The Athletic add that Sanderson has turned down a new deal, but Wolves are still hopeful he will sign an extension.
The ball is very much in Wolves’ court. While his current deal expires next year, they have the option to trigger a one-year extension. That means they don’t have to worry about losing him for free in 2022.
Now it is up to Newcastle to increase their offer if they’re serious about bringing Sanderson to St James’ Park.
