Former Newcastle United striker Demba Ba has taken to Twitter to sing the praises of Allan Saint-Maximin. He has branded the Frenchman as a ‘legend‘.

This was in reaction to the flag display at St James’ Park which saw Wor Flags pay tribute to the winger. In Ba’s eyes, it’s a true testament to his ability, considering his former teammate Hatem Ben Arfa never got one.

HBA was a cult hero at St James’ Park, adored for his incredible dribbling ability. The comparisons between him and Saint-Maximin are clear for all to see.

Saint-Maximin has had a run of some inconsistent form, but it’s great to see the fans get behind him. The team will need all the support they can get as they push for a top 10 finish.

It makes you wonder what Ba and Saint-Maximin would’ve been like if they’d played together at Newcastle

The Demba Ba tweet will have had some Toon fans thinking what if he and Allan Saint-Maximin played together. The Senegal international was the best striker at the club since Alan Shearer.

Meanwhile, ASM is a joy to watch. With his quick feet and desire to take on just about anyone, they may have linked up well if they’d played together in the famous black and white.

The Magpies have had some really exciting French wingers in their past. There’s the aforementioned Ben Arfa, then you’ve got David Ginola, a legend of the famous ‘Entertainers’ side. Laurent Robert was also brilliant.

Maybe in the future, some of the current players from Eddie Howe’s squad will reach the same cult-like status. Saint-Maximin is definitely adored already.

The currently injured Kieran Trippier has looked like one of the Toon’s best players in a long time. Bruno Guimaraes has already impressed too since his move from Lyon. There could be some exciting times ahead on Tyneside.

But for now, Newcastle are focusing on this season. They’re almost mathematically safe and can still challenge for a place in the top half of the Premier League.
