Demba Ba jokes with Alan Shearer after his Newcastle United announcement

Demba Ba is extremely happy that Newcastle United have a world class striker right now.

The player in question is obviously Alexander Isak, who took his tally for the season to 19 goals on Saturday. He scored a brace as Newcastle United beat Southampton.

The 25-year-old is unstoppable right now, but there has been debate among pundits over whether or not he should be recognised alongside the elite.

Gary Lineker has suggested that Isak is not world class yet, insisting that he needs to perform at this level for multiple years. However, the Match of the Day host certainly believes he is capable.

But Alan Shearer thinks Isak is world class, and has revealed that he has sat down to have a chat with Newcastle’s most expensive player ever.

Demba Ba reacts to Alan Shearer interviewing Alexander Isak

Shearer has announced on X that he has interviewed Isak for BBC Sport, with their conversation set to be released this week.

It should be a great discussion, as Newcastle United’s past and present meet up.

However, the post has prompted a reply from another player who knows a thing or two about scoring goals for Newcastle United – Demba Ba.

The former Toon striker has replied to Shearer on X, asking why he never interviewed him before declaring his love for Isak.

Ba wrote: “I’m jealous @alanshearer. You never made me the honour of visiting me when I was on fire. Jokes apart, we have ourselves a world class striker. I’m so happy!!!”

There was then a reply from Shearer, who posted: “I was always asking the club man and they didn’t invite me then!!! Hope you’re well.”

How Demba Ba compared to Alexander Isak at Newcastle United

There was certainly a time when Demba Ba was on fire.

He was signed by Alan Pardew in 2011, and spent two-and-a-half years at St James’ Park. Ba then joined Chelsea in January 2013, as they activated his £7.5million release clause.

The Senegal international was prolific during his short stint on Tyneside, averaging a goal every other game.

However, Ba’s record is not as good as Isak’s, who is already Newcastle’s second highest scorer in the Premier League behind Shearer.

While Ba was outstanding, Isak is on another level. That level is world class.

Newcastle United have a truly special striker right now. It looks like he has taken his game to even greater heights this season. There is a real presence about Isak. He is a player to be feared. He is imperious.

Ba is delighted to see Isak scoring so many goals for the Magpies, and it will be interesting to see what was said during his interview with Shearer. I doubt Shearer will be asking Isak when he is heading to Arsenal!
