Anthony Gordon is returning to Newcastle United as a full England international.

The 23-year-old has now made two appearances for his country, having received his first ever England call up from Gareth Southgate.

Anthony Gordon started the defeat to Brazil and did very well on his debut, while he came off the bench during the 2-2 draw with Belgium on Tuesday night.

While it was far from a perfect camp for England given the results, injuries and media scrutiny, Gordon can certainly be proud of what he achieved. One of his goals this season was to represent the Three Lions, and he has done just that.

Now he will hope that he made enough of an impression to be included in the Euro 2024 squad at the end of the Premier League season, and it sounds like he certainly caught the eye of Arsenal star Declan Rice.

Declan Rice sends wonderful message to Anthony Gordon after England debut

Following the end of England’s international commitments, Gordon took to his official Instagram account.

He posted a selection of photos from his first ever senior England camp, including being given his first actual cap by Southgate. Alongside the images, Gordon wrote: “Proud.”

The Newcastle winger’s post received responses from the likes of Joe Willock, Paul Dummett and Elliot Anderson, while there were also some very kind words from Declan Rice.

He commented: “Class all camp bro.”

Newcastle star has staked his claim with England

Rice is one of England’s leaders, and captained the Three Lions during Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Belgium. He is a key player for Southgate, and is a massively influential member of the squad.

He is also a player who Newcastle United wanted to sign during last summer, but he proved to be too expensive.

Regardless of that fact, it is incredibly encouraging to see Rice send such a kind message to Gordon. It should fill the Newcastle winger with confidence, and give him belief that he truly does belong on the international stage.

He was brilliant on his debut against Brazil, and it sounds like he has excelled in training too. That will give him a great foundation to be included in the squad for the Euros – now he must finish the season strongly with Newcastle.

That starts against West Ham United on Saturday, with the Magpies desperately needing three points as they continue their quest to qualify for Europe.
