Anthony Gordon has now reacted to the news of being called up to England’s first team for the very first time this afternoon.
Gareth Southgate announced that the Newcastle winger would be included in the England squad for their upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium later this month.
After it was announced, Gordon posted his immediate reaction on Instagram to celebrate the call-up after what has been a really impressive season for the young man.
Gordon excited to get to work with England
Gordon has previously discussed his love for playing for England when he’s been called up to their youth sides, helping the Under-21s win last summer’s European Championships in which he was player of the tournament.
He made it one of his main goals at the beginning of the season to be involved in the first team and despite missing out on the last three squads, he’s now in contention for a place at this year’s Euros.
The 23-year-old has been Newcastle’s key player in the Premier League this season scoring nine goals so far as well as assisting a further five making it difficult for Southgate to overlook him.
Newcastle will be slightly concerned with his fitness given that he came off injured in the game against Chelsea on Monday and would have ideally liked him to have an extended rest, but on a personal level it’s a brilliant achievement.
On Instagram, Gordon said: “Dream come true. Such a pleasure and can’t wait to get going on Monday.”

Gordon could take his game to the next level
Newcastle fans are well aware of just how good Gordon has been this season, and now he’s got the chance to show everyone else just how good he can be on the left wing.
It’s been a breakthrough season for the former Everton man who has developed massively since making that move in January 2023, and now he could even take his game to a whole other level with this added motivation.
Thankfully for Newcastle Gordon’s injury isn’t expected to be too serious and he could feature against Man City in the FA Cup this weekend, but he won’t be wanting to aggravate it right before his big chance in an England shirt.
Gordon absolutely deserved the call-up and it will be interesting to see how he reacts to it on the pitch and what confidence it will give him in the coming weeks.
