Newcastle United vs Arsenal has become an intense fixture in recent years, but one rivalry will not be renewed.
There have been some real battles between Newcastle United and Arsenal over the years, with the first being that 0-0 draw during the 2022/23 season. Since then, this fixture has been incredibly physical.
One Newcastle United player who relishes the physicality is Dan Burn. The England international is always up for the fight, and will have been eager to become reacquainted with an old foe at St James’ Park on Sunday.
However, that will not be possible.

Kai Havertz to miss Newcastle United vs Arsenal
Arsenal have a few injury problems ahead of Sunday’s game. Noni Madueke is unavailable, while there are question marks surrounding Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard’s availability.
One Arsenal player who will not feature at St James’ Park this weekend is Kai Havertz.
The German forward underwent surgery on a knee injury at the end of August and it is unclear when he will return.
It certainly will not be Sunday, which means the latest instalment of Burn vs Havertz will have to wait for another day.
The pair have had some very intense battles in recent years, dating back to when the Germany international was playing for Chelsea.
Havertz elbowed Burn in a game at Stamford Bridge in 2022 and should have been sent off, but managed to escape a red. That is the moment that sparked the rivalry, with the pair clashing again at St James’ Park later that year.
They have gone toe-to-toe ever since, with the battles continuing after Havertz’s move to Arsenal. The duo had to be separated again last season, as they got involved in a pushing contest at the end of Arsenal’s win over Newcastle at the Emirates.
What Dan Burn recently said about Kai Havertz
Burn recently mentioned Havertz during a video on Newcastle United’s Instagram account.
The giant centre-back was tasked with naming every Champions League winner in order alongside Bruno Guimaraes, which included Chelsea in 2021.
After Bruno got Chelsea right, Burn said: “Oh it’s a good one! Kai Havertz, my guy.”
He then pulled a funny face, before sharing a laugh with his Newcastle United teammate Bruno.
There is obviously no love lost between Burn and Havertz, but there will be no altercations between them this weekend when Newcastle United face Arsenal.
