Newcastle United take on Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final next week, and Dan Burn has delivered a warning shot to the Red Devils.

The game at Wembley is set to be the Magpies’ first cup final since 1999, with Newcastle looking to end their trophy drought that has gone on since 1969.

The words ‘Newcastle’ and ‘silverware’ do not belong together, but that could change next weekend. Eddie Howe’s side have done brilliantly to get to the final, and now have the chance to lift a trophy.

There is a huge amount of buzz on Tyneside for the final, with fans excited to soak up the atmosphere in the capital. But Burn has admitted that Newcastle are not just heading down south for a nice day out – they’re going there to win.

Dan Burn desperate to end Newcastle’s trophy drought

Following Saturday night’s 2-0 defeat against Liverpool, Burn spoke to NUFC TV. He was asked about the club having the perfect opportunity to bounce back after a tough loss.

“Yeah, we’ve worked really hard to get there,” Burn said.

“So we’re going to enjoy it. We’re going there to win. I don’t want it just to be where as a club and as a city we go there just happy for a day out. We’re going there to do a job.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve won anything and we need to change that. That’s what we’ll be going to do.”

A chance to make history

Burn was pretty defiant when talking about the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United. He is desperate for the club to end their trophy drought.

Just getting to the final is an achievement, and fans are going to have an amazing weekend regardless of the result. But Burn wants the lot, and there is no doubt that he and the rest of Eddie Howe’s team will be eager to come out on top.
