Newcastle United director Dan Ashworth has been spotted in the stands at a Salernitana game as the club continue their preparation for the January transfer window.
Newcastle have at times struggled to find goals in big moments this season and could explore the market for a new attacker next month if the price is right.
A new report from Gianluca di Marzio suggests that Ashworth was at the game against AC Milan watching over striker Boulaye Dia who Newcastle could look at signing next month.
Newcastle are in need of another goalscorer
While you’ll do well to find a better pair of strikers who rotate between each other in the Premier League than Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak, Newcastle are still in the hunt for another attacker.
Both players have dealt with injuries this season, as with most Newcastle players, and it’s become a big risk to have just the two of them as striking options at St James’ Park.
Newcastle could now look at bolstering their attack with a new signing in January having looked at the likes of Serhou Guirassy, but now they are also giving a lot of attention to the ‘impressive‘ Dia who is currently playing for Salernitana in Serie A.
The 27-year-old has netted four times in 13 appearances in the league this season and is wanted by a handful of Premier League clubs who are also looking for a new goalscoring threat.

Ashworth’s future at Newcastle looks in doubt
Although he’s been on scouting missions to try and find some new signings for Newcastle this season, Ashworth’s future at the club looks in doubt as Manchester United continue to target him.
It seems strange that a man in his position, where his work often revolves around developing a long-term project, that he would consider jumping ship, but just like in any other walk of life, money talks.
It would not be the end of the world should Ashworth leave and Newcastle have already lined up a potential replacement who Eddie Howe knows well, but it would certainly be a blow after all the work he’s done to develop this long-term project so far.
