Former Wolves and Everton defender Conor Coady is really shocked at what Newcastle United have just announced for the end of the season.
Newcastle are set to take on Tottenham in Australia just three days after the Premier League comes to a close with the Geordies ending on an away trip to Brentford in May.
Speaking on The Monday Night Club, Coady claimed that he thinks the Newcastle players are going to become frustrated at having to travel so far after such a busy season.
Coady thinks Newcastle’s stars won’t want to play
With a major international tournament right around the corner Newcastle have several players who will be hoping to be fit and available for their nations in just a few months time.
It’s difficult enough having so little time to recharge and prepare for what will be a very intense tournament coming off the back of a campaign packed with domestic and European fixtures.
Newcastle have already suffered enough in terms of injuries and it feels like at the minute they’re picking up a new one every other game, with Tino Livramento being the latest to be unavailable.
The likes of Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier are already not guaranteed a place in the England squad this summer and Coady thinks this is the last thing the two Newcastle stars will want to partake in before the tournament.
On Newcastle’s friendly, Coady said: “Are they? Well, that has gone down well in the dressing room.
“After everything you have been through in the season, the games you play and everything, it’s not that you jump on a plane and put on an hour’s flight, is it?
“Being in the dressing room, getting the news, you would be saying, ‘Why?’ first and foremost. We know why because of the money situation and the opportunity to bring in a little bit of revenue, for Australian fans to watch the teams play.
“I completely get it, but I think with the Euros being around the corner, that’s sort of thing happening, a massive tournament being around the corner, I am not sure if it is needed for football players, but from a club’s point of view, I am bringing revenue into the club. That’s the sole purpose of it.”

Newcastle get some early summer preparation
When the news broke just a couple of days ago it received a mix reaction form both the media and supporters, but there are some positives to be taken out of what is a very strange situation.
Both Newcastle and Tottenham would have had hopes that their season was not yet over by May 22nd with an FA Cup final to look forward to, but the Magpies dreams were broken this weekend against Manchester City.
Still, both are fighting for Europe and it could yet come down to the last game of the season, making it even more strange to jet off halfway around the world just a couple of days after what could be a very draining game physically and emotionally.
The one positive is for the managers – Eddie Howe will get one more chance to experiment with his team and test some players before he makes some key preparations for the summer and pre-season.
