Eddie Howe has offered an update on Tino Livramento who was absent through injury for Newcastle United’s defeat to Man City yesterday.

Having just stepped in as a starter for the injured Kieran Trippier, Livramento then picked up an ankle problem against Chelsea which ruled him out for the FA Cup quarter final.

Speaking after the game, Howe shared that the defender’s ankle had been swollen after the game on Monday and that they were hopeful he would be fine for the next game against West Ham.

Howe is hopeful Livramento injury isn’t bad

Newcastle have been on the receiving end of some pretty unfortunate injuries this season and they all seem to come at the very worst time when other players in the same position are also unavailable.

We saw that with both Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes against Chelsea, and now against Man City the same think happened with Trippier and Livramento, with Howe opting to play Jacob Murphy as a right wing-back.

Luckily for Newcastle and Howe this doesn’t seem to be too much of a significant injury for Livramento, so he should be fine after the international break to slot back into that right-back position.

The former Southampton man was being kicked at at every opportunity against Chelsea with Marc Cucurella making sure he made his mark, but yet nothing was given by the referee on the night.

On Livramento, Howe said: “We hope it’s not too bad, we hope he can be back for the next game. I think he twisted his ankle against Chelsea. He was on the end of a few rough challenges that night. He came in the next day and it was quite swollen.”

Howe can’t afford any more injuries

All focus is now on these final 10 Premier League games having been knocked out of every other competition – the Carabao Cup and Champions League in December and now the FA Cup yesterday.

They are in a difficult situation with as Chelsea could overtake them and send them into the bottom half of the table, but there’s still 30 points to play for and Europe is most definitely on the cards.

Newcastle now have two consecutive home games coming up and they really have to make that advantage count.

There’s a lot of talk amongst the fanbase that the season is now over after yesterday’s loss, but that’s not what Howe will be thinking and he still needs every player fit and available for this final run in to give it one last push up the table.
