Chris Sutton has locked in his prediction for Newcastle United’s trip to Bournemouth on Sunday.
Following the defeat to Barcelona on Sunday, Eddie Howe and his players will be keen to get back on the grind and register their second win of the Premier League season.
However, Newcastle United have another tough game on their hands, as they travel to the Vitality Stadium to play Bournemouth. Andoni Iraola’s side have enjoyed a bright start to the 2025/26 campaign, winning three of their opening four games.

Newcastle, on the other hand, have won just once and have failed to score in two of their four league games. However, the Magpies have kept three clean sheets in their opening four games, so they will hope for a fourth in five will come on Sunday.
With both teams keen to get the three points, Chris Sutton has shared his prediction for the game.

Chris Sutton predicts a narrow defeat to Newcastle United against Bournemouth
Fans would rather forget the last time Newcastle played Bournemouth in the Premier League. Justin Kluivert scored a hat-trick and bagged an assist to help the Cherries win 4-1 at St James’ Park. That defeat snapped a nine-game winning streak the Magpies were on at the time.
Unfortunately, Newcastle have had no luck away from home in recent years either, with Howe failing to win any of the three games against the club he took from League Two to the Premier League.
With that in mind, Sutton believes that it will be a similar story to previous seasons, with Newcastle leaving the Vitality empty-handed.
“This is tough because you could make an argument for every outcome, but I am going to back Bournemouth,” Sutton told BBC Sport.
“I have been impressed by the Cherries so far, in defence and attack, and although Newcastle beat Wolves last time out, they have not really got going yet.
“Former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is yet to win at Vitality Stadium in three visits with Newcastle, and he is going to have to wait a little longer for his first success.”
Eddie Howe’s worrying record against Bournemouth away
Newcastle must immediately forget the defeat against Barcelona and prepare themselves for the trip to Bournemouth, but it is much easier said than done. Playing on a Thursday night, Newcastle have very little time to recover and prepare for Bournemouth, so Howe may have to make some changes to his starting XI.
Fabian Schar was taken off with a head injury against Barcelona, so the likelihood is that he will be forced to miss the game. Malick Thiaw is most likely to take his place.
Elsewhere, there was minor concern for Kieran Trippier, who came off during the second half on Thursday night.

With Anthony Gordon suspended, new signing Nick Woltemade will most likely start for Newcastle against Bournemouth. The towering striker had a half-hour cameo for the Magpies in the Champions League, but he should be fit enough to go from the start on the South Coast.
Even though it is his former side, Howe will be keen to ensure his players are as prepared as they possibly can be to get the three points.
