Newcastle United have made some spectacular signings this summer, but there are still some major names who need to leave St James’ Park.

While we have seen Allan Saint-Maximin join Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia and Karl Darlow head to Leeds United, there are various other players who Eddie Howe wants rid of.

The likes of Ryan Fraser, Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick are not training with the first-team, but are yet to secure moves away from Tyneside. And time is running out.

Fortunately, there appears to be some interest in at least one member of that trio. Celtic are reportedly keen to sign Fraser, with Brendan Rodgers interested in the Scottish winger.

That would be perfect for Newcastle, who want to see the back of Fraser as soon as possible. He is massively out of favour at the club, with Howe dropping him from the first-team back in February.

A move to Celtic would give him a fresh start, and it would also allow him to compete for silverware and play in the Champions League.

It would be an ideal move for Fraser, but Celtic have been told to think again.

Newcastle winger Ryan Fraser doesn’t suit Celtic

Former Rangers and Scotland midfielder Barry Ferguson has spoke about Celtic’s interest in Fraser on Go Radio, and does not expect the 29-year-old to move to Parkhead.

“Do I think Celtic will sign Ryan Fraser? No, I don’t,” he said.

“I don’t think he suits Celtic.

“He’s got pace and power but I think Celtic will go for someone who is tricky, like Jota.

“But he’s had a right good career and has played numerous Premier League games so that will be interesting to see if something does happen but I do still think Celtic will bring in another two or three players.”

Celtic can do better

While Celtic fans won’t care what a former Rangers player thinks, it really would be a surprise if the Hoops made a move for Fraser.

His stock has dropped massively over the past 12 months, having previously enjoyed a bit of a renaissance at Newcastle under Howe.

But now he is the forgotten man, with the Magpies paying him £63,000-a-week to just train with the kids.

And while he has been a star in the Premier League in the past, Celtic can surely do better. They had the super talented Jota on the wing last season, and going from him to Fraser would be a massive step down.

A return to Scotland might suit Fraser, but a transfer to Celtic would certainly come as a surprise.
