Castore planning big change for new Newcastle United kit next season

Newcastle United could be playing in the Champions League next season, but no matter what competition they are in they will be wearing a shiny new kit.

As has become customary in football nowadays, clubs release new kits every season, and Newcastle are no different. Castore will be tasked with producing the Magpies’ strips for the third season in a row, having signed a multi-year deal with the club back in 2021.

There was hope from fans that Adidas kits might return to St James’ Park, but that dream has been put on hold for now. It was reported earlier this year that Castore will continue their partnership with Newcastle into next season, and a new report has provided an update on their plans.

Spoiler – the home kit will be black and white!

While the colours are a given, the British manufacturer are actually planning to go slightly against the grain with one element of the kit.

New Newcastle home kit will have white socks

According to Newcastle World, the home kit for next season will have white socks rather than black. They are traditionally black, with the Magpies normally sporting black socks ever since the inception of the club’s colours back in 1894.

There has been the odd season when Newcastle have worn white socks, while they were donned for a good few years in the 1970s. It most recently happened in the 2018/19 campaign, which is best known for being Rafa Benitez’s final year on Tyneside. White socks were also used for famous kits between 1999 and 2001.

It is not an earthshattering change from Castore, but it is a break from tradition – which might not go down well with some fans.

The report adds that the shirt will use a v-neck, rather than a round one like this season’s jersey.

Newcastle World also have details about the club’s away kits. There will reportedly be another ‘Saudi’ kit, with the third shirt set to be green. That will likely draw criticism, much like this year’s white kit.

The report adds that the away kit will be royal blue, which is a colour that has been used a lot through the years by the Magpies – and normally looks pretty smart.
