Casemiro was a thorn in Newcastle’s side when the Magpies faced Manchester United at Wembley, but he will now be suspended for the upcoming Premier League encounter.
Newcastle welcome Manchester United to St James’ Park on April 2nd, who will be without star midfielder Casemiro.
That is because the former Real Madrid man was sent off during the Red Devils’ 0-0 draw with Southampton on Sunday. Casemiro was given his second red card of the season for a dangerous lunge on Saints midfielder Carlos Alcaraz.
He was initially booked by Anthony Taylor, but VAR intervened and told the referee to have another look. Taylor then upgraded it to a red card, deciding that is initial assessment of Casemiro’s challenge was wrong.
From the replays, it is clear that the Brazil international jumped in with his studs. While he did make contact with the ball, he slid over the top of it and collided with Alcaraz’s shin.

It was a bad tackle, and one that means Casemiro will not feature against Newcastle next month.
Casemiro being suspended is a boost for Newcastle
Newcastle take on Nottingham Forest on Friday, then it is time for the first international break since the World Cup.
Once that is over, Eddie Howe’s side welcome Manchester United to Tyneside for a repeat of the Carabao Cup final. The Magpies will be looking for revenge, having lost 2-0 at Wembley.
The man of the match on that day was Casemiro, who opened the scoring with a header. That set the Red Devils on their way to victory, breaking Toon hearts in the process.

But he is now going to serve a four-match ban, meaning he will not be able to play at St James’ Park next month.
Given how good he has been this season, that is a huge boost for Newcastle, who will be looking to drag themselves even closer to Man United in the Premier League. The gap is currently six points, with Newcastle boasting a game in hand.
Every game is now vital for the Magpies as they look to qualify for the Champions League, and the upcoming clash with Man United is even more crucial. With Casemiro out of the equation, Howe’s side will fancy their chances of getting a result.
