Finally we have a review of Sandro Tonali’s trip to Wetherspoons.

The Newcastle United midfielder went viral following his Premier League debut. It began with everyone talking about his man of the match display, then it quickly turned to his hilarious trip to Wetherspoons.

The 23-year-old was pictured in the pub last week after booking a table, in what looked certain to be a stitch up by one of his Newcastle teammates.

That was what Alan Shearer thought, but no one was owning up to it. Bruno Guimaraes said he didn’t know why Tonali was there, while Eddie Howe was quick to ensure that Matt Ritchie did not get the blame.

Now Callum Wilson has given some insight, and it sounds like it wasn’t a prank after all!

Sandro Tonali thought Wetherspoons was ‘good’

Wilson has appeared on the latest episode of the Footballer’s Football Podcast, and spoke about what was said at the training ground following Tonali‘s adventure to Wetherspoons.

“I come into training one day when it happened and we were sitting at breakfast,” he said.

“Everyone was like ‘did you see the pictures of Sandro in Wetherspoons yesterday?’. I was like, surely not. And they were like ‘yeah, look’.

“So they were all showing us pictures of it round the table at breakfast. Then he come into the canteen and it was one of those awkward moments when you’re talking about someone and they enter the room. It just goes silent.

“One of the lads goes ‘Oh Sandro, did you enjoy Wetherspoons last night?’. He was like ‘Yeah, yeah, it was good’, so we just left it at that.

“Then people were starting to say ‘did you know there are better restaurants’, but I’m not sure if he’s just Googled a good rated restaurant and that’s come up. I didn’t get to the bottom of it.”

Wilson’s theory actually makes a lot of sense. He went there on his own back, merely booking somewhere that had good reviews on Google.

The Toon striker has vowed to get to the bottom of what happened, so we will no doubt hear more on the situation next week.

However, it is worrying to hear that Tonali thought his trip to Wetherspoons was ‘good’. Maybe his palate isn’t as refined as we thought, or perhaps he was just being polite.

Either way, this story just keeps getting better and better.

Now we know that Tonali actually enjoyed the experience, and it will be interesting to hear if the Italian becomes a regular! Hopefully not, as all those beers and burgers certainly won’t be good for his fitness.
