The next episode of the Footballer’s Football Podcast with Callum Wilson and Michail Antonio could be a very happy one, with both Newcastle United and West Ham potentially having major milestones to celebrate.

Newcastle are on the brink of qualifying for the Champions League, requiring just a single point from their remaining two games. Eddie Howe’s side have the chance to get the job done tonight at home to relegation-threatened Leicester City.

As for West Ham, their season could end with silverware. While relegation has been a constant threat, their Premier League status has now been confirmed, and they have a chance to make this campaign one to remember.

That is because the Hammers qualified for the Europa Conference League final on Thursday night, beating AZ Alkmaar in the semis. They will now face Fiorentina in the final in Prague on June 7th.

Both Newcastle and West Ham could be celebrating, but now Wilson has been asked a tricky question about himself and his podcast partner.

Wilson asked Champions League vs Conference League question

Wilson has spoke to NUFC TV ahead of Monday night’s game against Leicester. He was asked what would be the bigger achievement: Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League or West Ham winning the Europa Conference League?

“It’s got to be Newcastle getting in the Champions League,” he said, with a smirk on his face.

“Europa Conference League, you know, if we was in there we’d win it as well. That’s all I’ve got to say about that.”

Cheeky from Newcastle’s number nine

The wry smile on Wilson’s face was brilliant to see, as he was presented with the chance to stitch up his pal and West Ham striker Antonio.

Of course, there is a chance that neither could be celebrating come the end of the season. While it is closer than ever, Newcastle are not guaranteed to finish in the top four. As for West Ham, they still have to go to Prague and beat Fiorentina in the final.

But both achievements should be celebrated massively if they become reality, and Newcastle should be taking notes from West Ham about how to deal with competing on multiple fronts. While they have done brilliantly in Europe, their domestic form has taken a hit. That is something that Eddie Howe will be desperate to avoid next season.
