Callum Wilson has followed in the footsteps of Allan Saint-Maximin and thanked Steve Bruce following his Newcastle United departure.
The 60-year-old was relieved of his duties on Wednesday, leaving the club by mutual consent after more than two years in charge.
Saint-Maximin was the first to pay tribute to Bruce, posting a lengthy and heartfelt message on Twitter. It showed how well liked Bruce was by the Frenchman.

Now Wilson has joined Saint-Maximin in thanking the former Newcastle head coach.
He wrote on Instagram: “Things change so quickly in football, Thankyou to the Gaffer for everything during his time here, signing me and giving me the opportunity to play for this great football club which I’m truly grateful for and I hope you enjoy the next chapter.”
Was Callum Wilson the best signing Steve Bruce made at Newcastle?
Wilson joined Newcastle in the summer of 2020, arriving from Bournemouth for £20million.
It was the third most expensive signing of the Steve Bruce era, and arguably his best.
In Bruce’s first season, we desperately needed a striker. Joelinton wasn’t delivering, scoring just twice in the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.
It was clear we needed a proper striker, and Bruce managed to get one.

Wilson immediately proved his worth, and ended his first season as Newcastle’s top scorer with 12. He’s already impressing this season too, scoring three times so far.
It’s a toss up between Wilson and Saint-Maximin for the best signing of the Bruce era. They are two players who the new manager will be looking forward to working with.
Wilson says he is ‘truly grateful’ for Bruce bringing him to St James’ Park. He’ll be even more grateful if the club can kick on in the coming years and climb the Premier League table.
