Newcastle United have two players away on international duty with England for a camp that could benefit the Magpies’ transfer plans as well as the Three Lions’ bid to qualify for Euro 2024.
Toon stars Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier are both part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the upcoming internationals against Malta and North Macedonia. Wilson is back with the England team after a strong end to the season, having not played for the national side since the World Cup in Qatar.
The Newcastle duo will be hoping to feature and strengthen England’s quest to qualify for next summer’s European Championship, but they might also have another job to do whilst they are away on international duty.
Callum Wilson links up with Newcastle target James Maddison
Another player who is in the England squad is James Maddison, who is one of Newcastle’s top transfer targets ahead of next season. He is set to leave Leicester City following their relegation, and it has been reported that he is tempted to join the Magpies this summer.
Hopefully that temptation will grow over the next week or so whilst he plays alongside Newcastle regulars Wilson and Trippier.

It has previously been reported that Maddison has spoke about the Magpies during previous international camps, and the 26-year-old has already been spotted alongside Eddie Howe’s number nine.
Southgate’s squad reported for training on Sunday, just hours after Wilson was spotted at Sam Fender’s second triumphant homecoming gig at St James’ Park.
The striker spent the night chatting to Toon co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi, as they watched local hero Fender perform in front of a sold out SJP for the second night in a row, on an evening where he brought out AC/DC singer Brian Johnson.
It was an incredible night at St James’ – which has been a regular occurrence as of late. While this weekend was all about the music, it won’t be too long before Howe’s side are creating more memories at home.
But will his team include the ‘exceptional‘ Maddison? Hopefully. He continues to be heavily linked with joining Newcastle, and you can almost guarantee that the likes of Wilson and Trippier will be having a word with him during this international break.
