Callum Wilson left surprised by what happened at Eddie Howe's recent Newcastle United press conference

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson was surprised to learn Eddie Howe was asked a question which initially came from his podcast.

That’s what the 30-year-old said on The Footballer’s Football Podcast, after the Magpies manager was questioned over the forward’s recent illness – which was first revealed during an episode of the BBC show.

“Just to clarify, Eddie got asked if I was run down or not feeling well in his press conference, which was a bit bizarre,” he said.

“I guess it’s credit to the podcast, the pod is doing madness at the minute!”

“But he hasn’t said anything to me personally, but he has just had banter like what is this podcast you’re doing?”

Wilson surprised by Howe’s recent question

Whilst the Toon boss does not appear to have anything against Wilson hosting a popular podcast, he’s likely hoping any behind-the-scenes training secrets are not spilled to the public.

Alongside West Ham United’s Michail Antonio, the Englishman reflects on what’s recently happened in the footballing world, so Howe should not have anything to worry about in that regard.

However, this event truly illustrates just how much of an effect a throw-away comment could have on the internet, as it was straight away picked up on by the club’s media.

With Alexander Isak unavailable with an injury, Wilson has maintained his place in the Tyneside outfit’s starting XI.

Having played ten Premier League games, the striker has emphatically bagged six goals this term.

On fire in the final third, it certainly does not appear the player is distracted by his other commitments off the pitch, as his form remains unphased.

As a result, Howe will be happy with how everything is at the moment, delighted with the Magpies being third in the league table.
