Emil Krafth is on his way back from injury for Newcastle United, and has been getting some help from teammate Callum Wilson.
The Swedish defender has not played for the Magpies since August. His last appearance came in the Carabao Cup second round win over Tranmere.
Krafth started at right-back on that night, but was stretchered off in the first half. After the game, it was revealed that he had suffered a very serious knee injury that would rule him out for months.
Since then, we’ve barely heard from or seen Krafth. His most recent appearance came in the team training photos recently where he was spotted working in the gym.
That was a step in the right direction for Krafth, who is still a long way away from returning from injury. In his absence, Javi Manquillo has been acting as Kieran Trippier’s backup.
Krafth will be desperate to return as soon as possible, having played so well last season. He was even able to earn a new contract over the summer.
The Sweden international is putting in the work to recover from his injury, and has received some words of encouragement from his teammate Callum Wilson.
Krafth on how Wilson is helping him right now
Krafth has spoken to the club’s official website about his rehab, and praised Wilson for his role.
“Callum Wilson has been very supportive and we have spoken a lot,” he said.
“He told me about his rehab and how he recovered and kept positive and this really helps.
“I still have a long way to go because my injury was tough and the first few weeks were hard when you can’t do much after surgery. Now I can do more and more and each day is a step closer to playing and it helps me to focus and stay positive when I’m watching the team and seeing how great they are doing.”
Wilson helping Newcastle on and off the pitch
It’s great to hear Wilson is helping out his teammate during what must be a very difficult time. Recovering from injury sounds like an awful experience for footballers – especially a lengthy injury like Krafth is enduring.
That is something Wilson knows all about, having suffered serious injuries with both Newcastle and Bournemouth. He has gone through long rehabs, and knows how challenging it can be.
So it’s excellent to know that Krafth has someone he can lean on to give him a lift during a testing time.
Hopefully it helps him, and we can soon see the 28-year-old in a black and white shirt once again.
