Callum Wilson was Newcastle United’s hero on Saturday night, settling the nerves after a disappointing start to the season.

The 31-year-old was chosen to start up front for the first time this season by Eddie Howe, and the Newcastle manager’s decision was vindicated.

Wilson was outstanding against the Bees, producing the type of performance you expect to see from a Newcastle number nine. He battled for everything up top, he held it up well, and when a chance came his way he took it.

The striker got his third goal of the season, but was denied another after having one chalked off.

It was an eventful evening for Wilson, whose penalty means that Newcastle have stopped the rot. There was real relief on Tyneside when his spot kick hit the back of the net, while the forward still found time to make a young supporter’s day during the celebrations.

Callum Wilson celebrates goal with young Newcastle fan

Newcastle have released their Match Cam footage of the 1-0 win against Brentford, where we see a close up shot of the Toon players celebrating following Wilson’s goal.

Wilson heads to the Strawberry Corner where he is mobbed by his teammates, before making eye contact with a young fan. Wilson made a point to celebrate with the child, before Bruno Guimaraes got involved too.

They both high fived the supporter before heading back onto the pitch for the rest of the game. You can see the clip below.

It was a heartwarming moment from Wilson and Bruno, who gave that young fan a moment that will last a lifetime.

This is such a likeable team, full of great characters and wonderful people. They deserve all of the success they are getting, and hopefully will make more memories for supporters against AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
