Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is enjoying FIFA 23, and has played a game against the Magpies’ biggest rivals Sunderland.

The new game from EA Sports will officially hit the shelves on Friday September 30th, but plenty of players have got early access to it.

That includes Bruno, who posted an Instagram story on his official account of him playing the game on Wednesday night. In the clip, Bruno can be seen playing as his own club Newcastle, taking on the Black Cats. He is one of the Magpies’ best players on FIFA 23, with a rating of 81.

The Brazilian is yet to experience a Tyne-Wear Derby due to Sunderland’s position in the football pyramid, but has got a taste of it in the virtual world.

In Bruno’s video, he has just made it 3-0 at St James’ Park, scoring the third with his own player.

Who features in Bruno’s Newcastle XI on FIFA 23

Bruno is doing exactly what a lot of Newcastle fans will be doing when they first play the new FIFA game. It almost feels like a tradition for the first game to be the Derby.

However, it must be strange for the 24-year-old, playing and actually scoring with himself. He will have dreams of doing that in reality, and will hope to return to the scoresheet on Saturday against Fulham.

During the Instagram story, Bruno is on the pause menu and you can see the starting XI he is using. Usual suspects such as Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton feature.

Bruno has also chosen to start Sven Botman at centre-back over the likes of Dan Burn or Jamaal Lascelles.

The most interesting thing to note is that Newcastle’s number 39 has himself playing higher up the pitch. He has been playing as a ‘six’ this season, but has admitted that he prefers to have a more advanced role.

With Bruno playing as an ‘eight’, he has Joe Willock sitting in front of the defence. That feels like an unnatural role for the 23-year-old.

Bruno’s XI is: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Targett; Bruno, Willock, Joelinton; Almiron, Wilson, Saint-Maximin.

It’s really amusing to see Bruno playing and scoring with himself against Sunderland. It would be amazing to see him do that in reality whenever we next play them. But who knows when that will be.

More importantly, we need the Brazil international fit and firing in the Premier League.
