Newcastle United fans love Bruno Guimaraes, and Bruno Guimaraes loves Newcastle United.
The midfielder has been a revelation since his move to Tyneside last year. Now Bruno has pinpointed the exact moment that he fell in love with Newcastle.
The 25-year-old has done a piece for the Players’ Tribune where he discussed his entire career, including his formative years in Brazil.
He also discussed his move to St James’ Park and how happy he is playing for the Magpies. In fact, he can remember the exact moment that he realised that he loved Newcastle.
Bruno Guimaraes will always remember Newcastle vs Leicester in April 2022

“Then we played Leicester City at home, and for me this was probably when I fell in love with Newcastle,” he wrote.
“I scored the two goals in the match, and they could not have been more different — more me. The first one was a goal from the streets of Rio. The keeper bobbled the ball when he fell on it, and I didn’t hear the whistle, so I just kept kicking and kicking until it popped out of his hands and rolled across the line.
“And then the second goal, in the 95th minute…. All I can tell you is that, when the Newcastle fans are really on fire, like they were that day, you simply don’t get tired. I don’t know the science behind it, but you can just keep running forever.
“We got the ball in our own half, and I ran the whole length of the pitch, and when I saw the ball floating in the air, I took an old trick from my mom’s swimming lessons. I dove in the air like a dolphin, brother.
“I headed the cross in and then I heard the roar from the fans, and it was goosebumps. I ripped my shirt off, and that’s when I knew that I was really in the Premier League. It was an atmosphere I’d never seen before, even in Brazil.”
That game is on a long list of incredible Bruno moments already
That game against Leicester was incredible. We had gone behind to an Ademola Lookman goal, but Bruno drew us level.
Then it looked for all the world that it was going to be a draw, only for Joe Willock to burst down the line with obscene pace. The roar began from the crowd.
He was able to clip a cross into the box, and Bruno hurled himself at it. His header found the net and the noise was incredible. The atmosphere was outrageous, and it is one of many special moments Bruno has had since his £35million move.
His debut goal against Southampton, the brace at Norwich, his role in helping us get to the cup final – Bruno has rarely had a bad day in a Toon shirt and is completely at home in the North East.
He is adored on Tyneside, and truly felt the love for the first time on April 17th 2022. That is the day he felt he had arrived in England.
Now things could soon get even better, with the Carabao Cup final looming. Can Bruno help end the trophy drought at Wembley? Fingers crossed.
