Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is the headline-maker this evening after he scored a truly sublime goal against Southampton.

The Brazilian was named as a starter by Eddie Howe for the first time since his arrival at the club in January.

He replaced Joelinton, who missed out on the matchday squad with a knock.

Bruno has had to be patient since coming to the club, with Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Willock all thriving.

But tonight was his chance to show everyone what the hype is about.

And he certainly did that, putting in a tremendous all-round performance in the middle of the park.

But it is his goal that everyone is talking about. Matt Targett delivered a corner, which was headed back in the mix by Dan Burn and met by Bruno with a simply stunning backheel flick.

It was absolutely audacious, and he could not have hoped to score a better goal on his first start for the club.

It is without doubt a contender for Premier League goal of the month.

Thousands were blown away by Bruno’s remarkable goal, and Mick Quinn summed it nicely on Twitter.

The former Magpies striker said: “Just seen Bruno’s goal, a lovely slice of Brazilian flare (sic).”

Bruno’s superb display could potentially give Eddie Howe a serious headache ahead of the weekend game with Chelsea.

The star did go off with around 20 minutes to go, and hopefully that was just a precautionary measure.

Tonight he showed what an amazing player Newcastle have on their hands.
