Bruno Guimaraes pictured training with Newcastle for first time at SJP

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has been pictured training with Eddie Howe’s side for the first time.

The Magpies announced last week that they had completed a deal to sign the Brazilian midfielder from Lyon. He’s agreed a four-and-a-half year deal, and could end up costing a club-record fee.

The deal is worth £42million, including almost £7million worth of add-ons. Guimaraes could end up costing more than Joelinton did in 2019.

After touching down in Newcastle yesterday, the 24-year-old has been pictured training with his new teammates for the first time at St. James’ Park.

The midfield technician arrived in the north east yesterday after representing Brazil during the international break.

Guimaraes was an unused substitute in Brazil’s 1-1 draw at Ecuador, but he came off the bench in the 4-0 win against Paraguay where our number 39 set up Selecao’s fourth goal.

With Newcastle hosting 16th placed Everton on Tuesday night, Howe will be hoping to unleash his new midfield acquisition against Frank Lampard’s side.

Lampard may be able to hand debuts to Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek, but the former Bournemouth manager has his very own midfielder who is blessed with real technical quality to call upon.

Alongside Dan Burn and Matt Targett, Guimaraes is likely to make his debut in front of an electric St James’ Park crowd.

After getting a priceless three points last time out against Leeds, the Toon Army will be looking to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season when Lampard’s side come to town.

With the January transfer window closed, the attention switches back to getting results on the pitch and the addition of Bruno Guimaraes could give us real momentum in our quest to beat the drop.
